Fantasy AnalysisIt will go down as one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the sport. Elkins' toughness and a generous ringside physician were the only reason that The Damage was even in position to potentially pull off the miracle. Elkins was a bloody mess just seconds after the opening bell rang. He found himself on his back in the opening moments of the fight with Bektic reigning down vicious elbows on him. One of them opened a vicious gash above Elkins right eye. Numerous other cuts would follow, but you don't earn the nickname "The Damage" for no reason. After Bektic gassed out in Round 3, Elkins somehow mustered up the energy to connect with a combination along the fence that turned his opponent's lights out. Elkins entered the fight as a +525 underdog. It's a performance that will be talked about for years to come.
Fantasy AnalysisIt was a typical Elkins performance: grinding, at times boring, and ultimately, very effective. Since moving to Sacramento to train full-time with Team Alpha Male, Elkins' MMA career appears to have been resurrected. He landed all five of his takedown attempts against Pepey, which resulted in nearly 12 minutes worth of control time. Elkins is limited athletically, so as a result his ceiling isn't all that high, but between his competitiveness and the quality team that he trains with on a daily basis, he's going to defeat mediocre fighters like Pepey just about every time out. Elkins has now won three-straight and is 5-2 in his last seven fights overall.
Fantasy AnalysisElkins could not have looked any better. He moved out to Sacramento to train with Team Alpha Male and the decision immediately paid off. Elkins racked up seven takedowns against a guy who is a terrific wrestler and he tallied nearly two full rounds worth of top position time. Elkins, by his own admission, is limited athletically, but he is as tough and they come and he is never going to beat himself. It hasn't always been pretty, but the 31-year-old Elkins has had a very solid UFC career.
Fantasy AnalysisIt was a typical Elkins performance - gritty, hard fought, and not particularly pretty. Elkins is only 31-years old, but he has a lot of MMA miles on him. He has fought Chad Mendes, Jeremy Stephens and Charles Oliveira, among others. Elkins has limited physical tools, but he is tough enough to hang in there with most featherweights on the UFC roster. Elkins is now 3-3 in his last six contests.
